Baking Cookies!

I am not a baker. I love to cook but do not enjoy baking much. However, as a mother I do feel it is my duty to bake cookies and/or bread with my children occasionally. There is much to learn from cooking or baking and the time spent with your children can be priceless. So a few weeks ago I found a recipe for Peanut Butter Cookies. Here is the recipe:

1 cup of Peanut Butter
1 cup of sugar
1 egg

Mix ingredients together. Roll into tablespoon sized ball and roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cooking sheet and press(with a fork). Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes or until slightly brown around the edges.

Anyway, when I found this recipe I thought it would be great to do with Blaire. It is so simple and requires few ingredients which is what I hate about baking(so many things to find and measure). So this afternoon Blaire and I made cookies and what a good time we had.

We mixed all the ingredients together and watched the mixer do its job(quite a thrilling activity for an almost 3 year old). Then we made our little balls and Blaire rolled them around in the sugar and we pressed the fork into each of them. We baked them up and they were so good! We had a great time together and Blaire was such a good little helper.

Final Days of Summer!

The summer is quickly coming to an end and I am getting the bug to be back in my classroom. The downside to that is I have to be away from the girls, but, we have had such a sweet time together this summer. Both girls have grown and changed in such a small amount of time.

Blaire seems to have gone from a toddler to a little girl in a matter of weeks. She is talking more "grown-up" and her imagination is running all the time. We have yet to claim potty training as accomplished, but I hope that is just around the corner. I have discovered through this process what a head strong little girl I have on my hands. While I know that this trait is a tough one to parent, I know that if she is molded and groomed in the right way she has the potential to be a great leader. I pray that this is true.

We have had a few moments in the past few weeks that have tested both of us; Mommy's patience and Blaire's understanding of choices and consequences. I am trying to teach her through her poor choices that God's sin covers our own and that we are forgiven through Him. Of course in much simpler terms. Her current understanding of Jesus is that "Jesus lives in Kansas!". Which is so true. Now my job is to make that more personal!

Presleigh began the summer as a 3 month old and has just turned 5 months. She is now rolling over, eating a little bit of cereal and communicating in such sweet terms. I have started working with her on baby sign since she has started eating some solids. I know it is early but it was such a great experience that we had with Blaire that I hope I can also have with Presleigh. Of course she has not quit smiling and laughing!

Both girls are such blessings in my life and I continue to pray that the Lord will work through me to mold these girls into wonderful women of God! What an important and wonderful task I have at hand.

I am sitting on my couch watching T.V. and digitally scrapbooking our wonderful adventure to Montana and Washington State! We had so much fun!

The girls are champion car riders and while I give a little credit to portable DVD players, mostly they just did awesome! We logged 3400 miles and 70 driving hours total. We got home with only 1 trip to the emergency room, one blown tire and I am pretty sure one fractured finger(we will see what the doc. says!) But, all in all the trip was successful and we made so many memories and I have far many more pictures than I can put in a scrapbook!

4 Months Old!!

Presleigh is 4 months old! Wow, how fast the last 4 months have gone. It saddens me a little to realize how fast both of my girls are growing. I feel like even though I try and savour every moment I am not keeping up.

Presleigh is giggling and rolling over and meeting all of her milestones. She blesses me each and every day with her smiles. Although, I would like to say all those smiles are just for me, the reality is most of her smiles are for her sister. Oh how sweet it is to watch them together. Blaire has started playing with her since Presleigh has been more interactive. They laugh and play peek a boo! I love it!

I cannot imagine my life without my girls. I remember what it was like before they came and although the guaranteed full nights sleep were nice, I wouldn't trade my life for anything. Being called "Mom" and watching my girls grow has been the best thing I have ever done aside from marrying Stuart.

Summer and Sidewalk Chalk

I remember as a little kid how much fun I had with sidewalk chalk. Decorating the sidewalks with colorful pictures that can simply be erased with the evening rain was a staple activity for me as a child. So with that in mind, our house is stocked with sidewalk chalk hoping to instill the same love for the colorful chunks of chalk in our daughters!

Today was beautiful. Warm, but not too warm and perfect for an afternoon of drawing. So, clad in a sundress and bare feet Blaire set out to add a splash of color to our rather drab front walk. She had a blast. We even tried to draw a hopscotch, though the concept of that game is a bit out of reach(and so is hopping on one foot for that matter).

"I'm a BIG GIRL!"

Last Friday Blaire proclaimed that she was a "big girl"! Oh, music to my ears! With the news that we were expecting our second child a year ago and a whirl wind pregnancy and the birth of Presleigh. Little Blaire has had a lot of adjusting to do. She has been the center of attention for 2 1/2 years and the sole apple of Mommy and Daddy's eye.

As soon as we began getting ready for the baby and as it was quite apparent that I was with child, Blaire began to insist that she was a baby. I suppose she was making sure that she still had a place in the family. Especially with her all of the sudden being referred to as "Big Girl" and "Big Sister".

In December Blaire was nearly potty trained but decided that she preferred diapers...ugh! I quit using the phrases mentioned above and made sure that she knew that she was not being replaced. I started calling her my first baby and Presleigh my second baby. I made a big deal about things that she got to do that Presleigh couldn't because she was little.

However, two weeks ago Blaire decided she was finished with pull-ups and wanted to wear big girl underwear. She started swimming lessons and last Friday on our way to Colorado she declared that she was a "Big Girl". We all know she will always be my baby but what a mile-stone she has achieved. I am so proud of her!!

Aww Summer at last!

It is hard to express my feelings when I hear the word summer! I love being a teacher. I love working with kids but I do LOVE the fact that my year starts in August and ends in May!

Since summer has begun we have made a trip to Colorado to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday. We had a great time and the Davis side of the family took the opportunity to have a reunion as well. The highlight of the weekend was getting to introduce Presleigh to my dad for the first time which happened to be my dad's 60th birthday to the day!

Since our return we have delved into potty training. Blaire is doing great! I have been waiting on her to let me know she is ready. If her constantly taking off her pull-up and digging through her drawer to find panties isn't enough of a clue I don't know what is. So as any good mom I am bribing her with a trip to Target to buy a new toy when she fills in her sticker chart. Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me!

Presleigh is doing great as well. She is meeting her milestones and has decided that napping all afternoon is the way she likes to spend her time...fine by me! She is a great sleeper/eater/pooper. I could not be prouder! More than that she is an amazingly happy baby. She talks and smiles all the time and her smiles are contagious. I just wish that time would slow down a little as she seems to be growing at the speed of light.

We are looking forward to a short weekend trip to Grandma Helen's in Trinidad and then we will gear up for our trip to Missoula, Montana to see my family. We will be driving 1200 miles with the girls. Call us crazy, but we are looking forward to it. To add to that, we bought a minivan a few weeks ago! We decided there was no way we were going to be comfortable in our car with all these road trips. Particularly because neither one of us fit in between the two car seats in the back to be able to feed and entertain the girls if need be.

I plan on relishing every minute of my time at home with the girls this summer. These are such sweet girls and I love being their mom!
